Tipitina's
Uptown
501
Napoleon Avenue at Tchoupitoulas
The
building at 501 Napoleon was erected in 1912, and over the years
has housed a stable, a gymnasium, a gambling hall, and even
a brothel. It has been a hot spot for New Orleans music since
1942. In the early 1970's local music enthusiasts opened Tipitina's.
It
quickly became home to dozens of New Orleans rhythm and blues
artists. Henry Roeland Byrd, better known as Professor Longhair—one
of the most influential and colorful piano stylists to emerge
from New Orleans since Jelly Roll Morton—became their
patron saint. Today Tipitina's is world famous for live music,
parties, and good times in general.
Tipitina's
Uptown is available seven days a week. Located Uptown under
the live oaks on Napoleon Avenue, just a short ride from the
central business district and French Quarter, it is the picture
perfect setting for authentic New Orleans parties. Tipitina's
Uptown is available for parties of up to one thousand people,
and has one of the best sound and light systems in New Orleans.
Plus full kitchen, walk-in cooler, buffet area, ample parking,
and a balcony that accommodates up to three hundred people.
Some
say Tipitina's is filled with magic. Some say it's simply haunted
by the spirit of Professor Longhair, who inspires the musicans
with an energy and excitement that keeps our tradition of great
music alive. Whatever you choose to believe, come experience
a night at Tip's. Savor the legacy, and the magic, of a sacred
New Orleans tradition.
